In the series Broken Landscapes, I explore destruction as a form of construction, a process of creating a new piece by recycling older or damaged ceramic works. Through this, I continuously question the finality of form and the point at which the intended state of the material is achieved. Whatever the form or purpose of the artistic object may be, I never perceive it as something final, but rather as constantly changing, depending on context, time, and space. The shard, in its form, appears throughout the series in ever-new contexts, becoming an increasingly present element in the creative process. The shard is most often associated with negative connotations and understood as something final, useless, something to be discarded. The sealed fate of the shard challenges new perspectives and potential interpretations and contextualizations of useless elements. Broken Landscapes investigate the relationship between finality and the infinity of space (both exhibition space and conceptual/mental/ideational space) while simultaneously reflecting the current state of both society and nature.
